CHARLOTTE'S ROSE INN
Contractor
William H. Fraser built our home in l884. Mr. Fraser was responsible
for other buildings in Charlottetown including the Kirk of St. James
and City Hall. The first occupant of the home was Mary Jane Moore. At
that time, women were not allowed to own property directly, so the deed
was conveyed to a third party who held it in trust for her. Two additions
have been made to the original building both at the rear of the property
on the first and second floors.
Over
the course of the years, the home has undergone many changes …
a private residence, an apartment building, a boarding house, a nursing
home (combined with 9 Grafton Street), and now a Bed and Breakfast.
Innkeepers quarters were
constructed in the former Wood’s Nursing Home commercial kitchen,
just behind the parking spaces. When planning the renovations, every
effort was made to retain the charm of a Victorian family home.
The exterior landscaping and
container gardening have won awards from
“Communities in Bloom” and “Keep Your Hometown Beautiful”
contests. We often include our own fresh herbs in our full breakfasts.
