www.peisland.com is the original tourism portal for Prince Edward Island. It was conceived and started by David Gregori in 1994 -- he understood at an early stage the potential the Internet had for marketing products and services. David began building web sites and including them within the portal as a better way for the public to find the information they needed to plan their vacations.
The concept of portals was relatively new at the time and many of the assumptions David made at that time were visionary. One of the reasons that PEIsland is now so successful is due to these early steps he made in designing the site model. Over the years it has proven itself to be very effective and the latest statistics show that approximately 400,000 unique visitors are on the site during a year or about 40% of the 1,000,000 visitors to the Province each year.
David was joined after a few years of operation by Pat Chan who also contributed in a significant way to further developing the portal and refining its business case.
In 1999, Donald McKearney, who was a tourist operator himself, bought the portal from David and Pat and operated it until it was sold in 2003.
The operation was acquired by Timeless Technologies in March of 2003. Timeless Technologies had a strong track record of developing advanced web sites/systems and was firmly established in electronic commerce and e-marketing. Timeless Technologies has marketed and sold their software in over 50 countries using web marketing techniques. It was a natural fit and the Internet presence of the portal has been significantly increased since the marketing plan developed by Timeless Technologies has been implemented starting in January of 2004. This plan has involved the creation and expansion of an interconnected system of portals that now provide increased rankings on high value search terms. By mid 2004 this system will include 9 tourism portals that compliment each other in presenting PEI goods and services to the Internet world. At present this group includes:

Complete copies of all systems are backed up daily to off site locations ensuring recovery of data should a calamatous event such as fire, flood or earthquake occur. Multiple daily hard drive mirror images are also made to protect against data loss due to hardware failure.
